"Custom report" means something different depending on the tool. In Shopify Admin, it usually means picking from a limited set of preset filters. Here's what's actually possible natively, and where you need something more.
What Shopify Admin Lets You Customize
Shopify's built-in reports (available on higher plans) let you adjust date ranges, apply a handful of preset filters, and choose which columns display. That covers a decent range of quick lookups but stops well short of true ad-hoc analysis.
Where It Breaks Down
Combining filters across different data types — for example, "customers in the Loyal segment who bought Product X in the last 60 days" — isn't something native reports support. Grouping and aggregating by an arbitrary field, or building a report that joins order data with customer segment data, requires exporting to a spreadsheet and building it by hand.
What an Excel-Style Report Builder Adds
SnapDash's report builder works the way a spreadsheet does — filter by any combination of fields, group by category, aggregate with sum/average/count — but against live, synced Shopify data instead of a static export. Start from one of 14 templates (sales, inventory, customer, financial) or build from scratch, then export the result to CSV, Excel, or PDF.
"The report I used to rebuild every month by hand in Excel — filtered by segment, grouped by product category — now takes two minutes to reproduce because it's saved and just refreshes against current data."
— Finance Manager, Apparel Shopify Store
Saving and Reusing Reports
The real time savings isn't building one custom report — it's not rebuilding it every week. A saved custom report re-runs against current data automatically, which is the actual gap between Shopify's native reports and a dedicated report builder.
