A single sales figure tells you almost nothing on its own — trend is what actually matters. Shopify's sales over time report is the native way to see that trend, with a few real gaps once you want more than a basic view.
Where to Find It
In Shopify Admin, go to Analytics → Reports → Sales over time. Choose a date range and a granularity — daily, weekly, or monthly — and the report plots gross sales, net sales, and orders across that period.
What It's Good For
This is the fastest native way to answer "is this month trending up or down compared to last," or to spot an unusual dip or spike on a specific day within a longer period.
Where It Falls Short
Three gaps show up quickly: there's no built-in way to overlay this period against the same period last month or last year on the same chart; you can't break the trend down by customer segment (new vs. returning, for example) without a separate report; and granularity options are fixed to what Shopify offers, without custom rolling windows.
The SnapDash Alternative
SnapDash's dashboard trend widgets include period-over-period comparisons built in by default, and a sales trend can be filtered by customer segment or product category directly in the report builder. See our Shopify sales report guide for what to check on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cadence.
